We are responsible for our students’ intellectual and social development. Our goal is to help our students grow into confident and principled people as we seek to provide a safe learning environment that encourages students of all backgrounds to be creative thinkers who are excited about learning and about becoming productive citizens.

Towards this goal, we have in place a school­wide system of behavior support that emphasizes teaching behavioral expectations. Students will be specifically taught what behavior is acceptable/unacceptable in order to be successful in the school setting.

Over the last several years, we have given token awards to students whom staff members observe following our school­wide rules. These rules are Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Kind. We teach and expand on these rules for all areas of the school during our first week back and again after Winter and Spring break. Additionally, we have a monthly theme and students receive counseling lessons around the theme over the course of the month.  

Tokens are a form of “caught you being good” rewarding. Tokens have been well­ received by staff and students alike.  Students are able to submit their tokens and collectively work to earn a school­wide incentive such as popsicles, crazy hair day, etc. In addition to the school­wide incentive, our PBIS team has partnered with our parent organization, GWPO, and we have a TOKEN STORE. Students may purchase small items or experiences using their tokens. We also honor one student from each room each month at an assembly at which students receive a prize. 

In addition to the recognition of appropriate behavior at school, we also have in place a discipline program. We feel it is important to explain to parents the entire program. The Behavior Expectation Matrix can be found in Resources for Parents.
